We are living in a time of crisis--of heightened emotions, viral illness, social movement, and great uncertainty.
Our nervous systems are on high alert most of the time (whether we realize it or not), and we don't know what tomorrow will bring or when things will go back to "normal."
It is a challenging time to say the least, and it is during times like these that radical self-care becomes even more crucial!
Below are a series of practices that I have personally implemented that have been incredibly helpful, and I wanted to share them with you in case you're in need of a little extra support during this time :)
Invest in a wellness practitioner-- whether it be acupuncture, coaching, massage, virtual healing, therapy, yoga, etc, working with a wellness professional (or more than one!) who can provide support, guidance, and accountability will help you to: stay on track with your goals, calm your mind, ground you physically, release tension, build immunity, and relieve physical ailments (just to name a few!)
Keep your living space clean-- studies show that your living space is a reflection of what's going on internally, and that it actually uses energy and focus to take in the visual of a messy space (our minds subconsciously identify every object in the room, so the more crowded a space is, the more work your brain has to do). Cleaning regularly is also a good way to get stagnant qi moving, leading to feelings of relaxation and relief.
Feed your body nutritious, fueling foods-- the phrase "you are what you eat" is no joke! Eating a diet that is rich in fiber, healthy fats, whole grains, and nutrients will leave you feeling more energized, grounded, and clear minded. We are already going through enough right now, we don't need to give our bodies more work to do!
Spend time outside-- we are a reflection of nature and it is no coincidence that spending time outside (especially among nature) leads to feelings of relaxation and balance. Take some time to go for a hike, do some kayaking, or go to the beach--whatever makes you feel the calmest and most reflective!
Practice 5-7-5 Breath--this technique (breathing in for 5 counts, holding for 7 counts, and breathe out for 5 counts) is a quick and easy way to take you out of fight or flight and activate your parasympathetic nervous system. It only takes a few minutes and leaves you feeling more grounded, open, and clear!
Move your body-- movement of any kind has always been a key tool in facilitating qi movement and calming the mind. So do whatever feels best for your body! There's no wrong answer :)
